The following list will give you an idea of what to look for in animals that may indicate some disease or problem starting up. This list of signs is not complete, nor does it necessarily indicate an animal is ill. For example, when an animal eats something unusual it may temporarily have diarrhoea.
But, to prevent any possible illness from spreading or an animal from becoming very sick, if you observe any of these signs in a cat, dog, or other pet, please inform a veterinarian. Thanks.

GENERAL APPEARANCE SIGNS

• Listlessness
• Depression
• Weakness
• Bloated Appearance
• Blood or serum weeping from any surface
• Discharges from any opening
• Sores
• Poor hair coat
• Hair Loss

  GASTROINTESTINAL SIGNS

• Change in the character of the stool, especially loose stool and diarrhoea
• Absence of stool
• Vomiting
• Failure to eat
• Excessive appetite (overeating)
• Perverse appetite (such as eating paper or stones) -Puppies will often eat strange things out of curiosity, which does not indicate they are sick, although what they eat may lead to illness.

  RESPIRATORY SIGNS

• Runny eyes
• Runny nose
• Congestion
• Sneezing
• Coughing
• Shortness of breath
• Foul breath
• Audible breathing

  MUSCULOSKELETAL & NERVOUS SYSTEM SIGNS

• Limping
• Failure to use one limb
• Inability to rise
• Ataxia-loss of balance, head tilt
• Tremors
• Excessively anxious
• Abnormal state of consciousness - e.g. confused, comatose
